Current Time.
Sometimes, the internet surprises me in ways that warm my heart and give me strength that no one who knows me in person does. It’s not something I’m comfortable admitting, but no one in my immediate circle reads what I write, responds, or shares it. Everyone who reads, listens, or writes me a comment doesn’t know me personally at all, and these connections were all made here on social media.
So, as I scrolled through social media this week, I stumbled upon a post that astonished me. It was a thoughtful reflection by someone who’d read “The Liat Show: Learning to Fly with a Little Help from My Friends” and listened to the podcasts about it. Their words resonated so deeply that they seemed to capture the essence of what I’ve been trying to create through my storytelling.
The comment said: "Listening to this podcast, I couldn’t help but reflect on how creativity is, at its heart, a journey - a discovery of oneself and a connection with others. Liat Portal’s exploration of her cultural roots and her ability to weave them into music, history, and personal narrative is inspiring. This comment made me feel a moment of connection and triumph. It’s these moments that remind me that only people can bridge worlds and bring us closer together, even when we’ve never met, while computers, algorithms, and bots can’t.
